
Adam Mathews is a partner in Nesbitt IP LLC, and specializes in preparation and prosecution of patent applications related to mechanical, electrical, software, and chemical technologies.
Adam’s technical and patent experience covers a wide range of technology and product areas, including medical devices, digital wearables, internet-enabled devices, cell phones, applications, and software, as well as automotive exhaust systems, hydrogen storage, plastics and materials science, and biomimetic materials. Adam also has experience with freedom-to-operate analyses, trademark and copyright matters, mergers and acquisitions, privacy and data security compliance (including HIPAA and GDPR), and contract negotiation across domestic and international operations.
In addition to obtaining a J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School, Adam earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame, completing the five-year John J. Reilly Dual Degree Program in four years. His engineering honors thesis examined the synthesis of biomimetic brain material for use in impact testing. Prior to joining Nesbitt IP LLC, Adam worked as an engineer at Bechtel’s Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program, as a patent associate at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, and as Senior Patent Counsel at Faurecia Clean Mobility, where he tripled the size of the local patent portfolio and reduced external IP spending by 50%.
Adam is a past Chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the Ohio State Bar Association. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is licensed to practice in the State of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Mathews is also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, before which his work has appeared.
